Shelby GT500 Over the Years: A Brief History
Originally produced in 1968, the Shelby GT500 is a high-performance automobile similar to the classic Ford Mustang. A more powerful version of what is arguably the most popular muscle car in the world, the car was also known as the Shelby Mustang. Originally featuring a 390 cubic inch V8 engine, the GT500 was later upgraded to a 428 cubic inch V8 engine as well as the 428 cubic inch CobraJet engine. The original model was available in both fastback and convertible options. Unfortunately, production of the Shelby GT500 experienced a long hiatus in 1969 as a result of the fallout between Shelby and Ford during which Ford took over production of the car.

In 2005, the GT500 made a grand comeback with an improvised 330 cubic inch V8 engine boasting a horsepower rating of 500, making it by far the most powerful Mustang to date. Within a year, the Shelby GT500 model was upgraded to offer a 540hp engine with limited edition models with carbon-fiber panels, sport suspensions, and optimized performance in comparison to the standard GT500.
